Make a connection to the information in chapter 16 and ask yourself "What if........" Make sure your answer is thoughtful, intelligent, and grammatically correct.
What if the North relied on slavery as much as the south had? Would there had even been a civil war and if not would we still have slavery in America today? I think that even if the North relied on slavery that there still would be a war because the south still had different views on Immigration and social standings. But if the war never happed i think the slaves would band together to end slavery themselves so their would'nt be slavery during 2011.That is what i personally think.
What if slavery hadn't been abolished? The south relied heavily on slavery and today I couldn't imagine life with slavery. I personally have African American friends and if slavery hadn't been abolished I probably wouldn't have been friends with him. He would most likely be working for me if anything. If slavery wasn't abolished life would be so much different. Planatations wouldn't be worked by whites but only blacks. I am glad that slavery was abolished however because I thought it was wrong to undermine a specific type of people.
What if the South won the Civil War? Would slavery still be an issue today? Would there be another Civil War? I think that if the South won the Civil War the North would have kept trying or the South would try to take over the North. i think that slavery wouldn't be an issue today because the North would have eventually won. I think that maybe around 20 to 50 after the Civil War the North would have tried again and they would have probably won.
What if all of the people who discovered or invented new things never thought of the amazing things they did? Would we be this far into industry and technology if it weren't for their inventions? Would people still have to do farming and things with hand? I think that even if these people never thought of these discoveries, someone would've over time. Because everyone knew that it was hard for us to get by without the change of some things. So maybe someone else would've thought of it. But, also maybe we wouldn't be as smart as we are in technology and machines.
What if the Civil War had never happened and the South had formed their own seperate country?
I think that their would be many conflicts between the North and South. Slavery would continue to expand in the South. Also, the South would have to expand on manufacturing and the North would have to expand their famring industry.
Julia Novotny-What if the cotton gin hadn't been invented? How would it have changed the North and the South? If the cotton gin hadn't been invented, the Northern textile mills wouldn't have had such hazardous conditions because the employees wouldn't have had to work so fast. The cotton gin allowed cotton to be separated faster, so they could make more clothes faster. The South may have not split slave families. The cotton gin made separation of cotton and seeds much faster, so more cotton could be planted and harvested by more slaves, so they were split from their families. This made more money for the plantation owners. So, if the cotton gin wouldn't have been invented, there could have been less lives harmed.
What if there was no civil war? Would slaves still be around? I think that if there was no Civil War slave might actually still be around. If the slaves were still around most americans would sit around and do nothing all day causing them to become fat and lazy.
What if the Union Army did not have access to the railroad like they did? They would not have been able to recive supplies like food clothing or weapons from the North. That means they would have probably lost the war and our country today might be two seperate countries. One free and one based on slavery.
What if immigrants were not allow into the country? I think if immigrants were not allowed into the country, our ancestors would all be the same(American), our railroads would not have been done as fast as they were without their help, and many cultures that were brought over would not exist.
What if cotton and other main crops weren't inveted in the south? Would we have had slavery in the south on the plantations? If the main crops were not invented we probably wouldn't have slavery. If we didn't habe slavery then there wouldn't have been a war between our own country and there would not be a lot of dead americans.
What if labor unions didn't form? The work conditions would be very poor. There would be very low pay for long working hours. Kids might have been free meaning they may have had to fight in wars and battels.
What if the South won the civil war? Would there be slavery in this country today and would we be the Confederacy States of America?
I think that if the South won the war this country would not be in a good spot because I think we would still have slavery. Then the African Americans would rebel against us and we would be enemies with the Africans. Plus the other countries would hate us for putting innocent humans to work for the greedy, lazy americans of the past who were rich.
What if textile mills were never invented? If this was true the north would never have excelled in the speed of making clothing. Before textile mills all clothing had to be handmade. I am not very crafty and I don't even know how to sew so if textile mills weren't created,it wouldn't be in my favor. Textile mills were a great advantage in industry.
What if someone had not discovered the power of steam and the idea of railroads or other important discoveries for around 30-40 years longer? What would our life be like now? I think that if those basic ideas wouldn't have been discovered, we probably wouldn't have all of the technology that we take for granted today. Life as we know it today would be completely different. Who knows, maybe we would still be listening to cassette tapes rather than ipods!
What if the U.S didn’t allow immigrants? I think if the U.S never allowed immigrants to enter the country our culture and history would be way different. Most of our holidays, food, and dress come from different cultures. Where do you think the name the melting pot came from? Our country is made up of many different mixed cultures. Our history would be way different.
What if the industries in both the north and the south never invented things like the tractor, cotton gin, or the machines? What would life be like today?? What would we be doing today if we didn't have mass production or inventions to help make farming easier?
If we never invented things like the tractor or the cotton gin we would maybe still have slavery because farming is a really hard job for only one person to do so if they didn't have machinery to help them, they wouldn't have been able to get much done. In the life we have today, meaning very dependant on things like mass production, we would still have to be coming into school with homemade clothing. That would mean also that we would all have similar clothing, and you would maybe only have one good set, and one work set of clothing. Even things like food today are being mass produced. Food would be a really big problem if it wasn't mass produced today because there are a lot of people who do not know how to garden, and grow there own food, let alone even know how to work because today’s world is all about technology.
What if the North didnt have railroads? They wouldnt be able to import or export goods and traveling would be very long. It would take much longer to travel with anything else. Railroads make travel and importing and exporting goods much easier and faster.
What if would of happened if the south had more factorys? I think that the south would of have a chance because then they can make stuff faster and have more of it than running out of stuff they would have it.
What if the south didn't assassinate President Lincoln? Would he have made changes for the better? What would have happened? I feel like President Lincoln would have made even better. He would have given rights to women and he would have made people much happier and he would have brought more to the table
Jeni: What if there was never any slaves? The plantations would never have been harvested. The cotton gin would have been invented erlier becasue there would not be that labor of picking cotton. Alot of plantaion owners would have been poor bacause of low amount of income that came in. Would african americans even come to this country??
If it didnt happen there would possibly more people in the US than right now. That is what I think would happen if the Battle of Gettysburg never did happen there would have been still 120,000 people.
What if all the inventions that were made, weren't discovered and don't exist? What would the world look like today? How would our lives be affected today in present life? Our lives would be affercted by some of the different ways we farm, our industry and workforce, and transportation because we wouldn't have some of those simple tools or devices they invented back then. So we would have different ways we would do all those things today.
What if the North and South both had slaves & factories. Would there be no war? The North wanted to take away slavery, and that would destroy the South's economy and what they do. If the North and the South had slaves, the North probably wouldn't want to get rid of slavery. Since that was a factor of the war, there might've not been a war.
What if we didnt have the factories to make the weapons for the war? I think if we didnt have all the weapons to fight the war with, it would have we been more diffuclt to fight it and think we would have had a harder time with the south.. I also think the war would have lasted longer....
What if, like Walter Hunt (inventor of the safety pin), Eli Whitney realized the effect that his invention would have on people and didn't get a patent? I think it is possible that someone else could make a similar invention. If not, then I think work would be just as hard as it always was and the South wouldn't be able to meet the cotton demand from European mills and the North. The southerners would have to invent a better way to remove the seeds from cotton if they wanted to take advantage of the demands. Planters might not have needed to expand their plantations as much as they would need to with the cotton gin. That would mean that the demand for slaves wouldn't have been as much as it was. The North wouldn't be able to manufacture as much cloth, meaning, that not as much clothing could be made.
What if the north and the south were never separated into the north and south? Would the whole country have slavery then or would the whole country be a free state? The civil war would have never happenned then because everyone agreed on everything.
What if we never had labor unions? We would still have bad wages and working conditions. Women would still be treated worse than men in the factories. Some kids might not go to school because they would be working to make money for their families. I think it would mess up today's economy because no one would be happy with what they're doing and not have the courage to stand up for themselves.
What if no one has ever made clippers. Clippers were made of two ships; rainbow and sea witch. clip means "fast pace". They used these boats to go to China to trade goods. They got silk cinnamon, and firecrackers. If they never invented clippers the world would have taken a while to trade with China. They went to China from New York in 74 days and 14 hours. This was amazing for this time period.
What if they didnt make the Morse code would we be sending thing in the mail. i think if they didnt make the Morse code we probably wouldnt have the phone and we would b sending thing by mail.
What if baseball was never invented? Today baseball is one of the sports played all around the world. It is known as Americas past time. Many kids including me play competitive baseball in a league. Some people only play one sport and that is baseball. I think this is one of the best things that came out of the Civil War.
What if slavery was never abolished? A lot of what we learned about equal rights over the years came from this period of time. Just think about where we would be now, still slavery, harsh labor & treatment, and even worse discrimination. It hade not have been abolished it probably would have progressed and gotten way worse and absaloutly nothing would be the same today. It was a major event and has showed us that everyone is created equal no matter what race.
What if there was no slavery to begin with? The Civil War could have started anyway, but maybe it would have just been a political debate. At the same time, there would be so much less discrimination against African-Americans. There could be new scientific discoveries new coroporations if they hadn't been deprived basic human rights.
what if the north didnt win. what would the us/world be like today.also what would it belike if 600,000 people didnt get killed and are population today.
What if slavery never happened how do you think the world would have been or is now? I think that the civil war would have still happened but I think the difference would me the fact that the south would have a harder time. For today I think the world would be different becuase of the fact that their are still some people who believe that whites, blacks, and mexicans shouldn't be able to go to the same school. So I think that would change.
What i poor ireland citesen never had a problem with there photatoes and never got sick cause of there crop and immagrated to America would they turn to slavery due to the fact that they didnt have as much people to do cheap labor.
what if there had never been a civil war, would there still be slavery in the south, and would there still be women, children, and immagrents working in bad factory conditions for almost no money at all?
WHat if slaves were not even a big deal during the civil war? i think that if there were no slaves during the civil war there wouldnt have been such a conserversey. (I DONT KNOW HOW TO SPELL IT) i think that thecivil war would have been less likely to be violent and take a different part.
What if the North relied on slavery as much as the south had? Would there had even been a civil war and if not would we still have slavery in America today?

I think that it never should have happend because lots of people died for no reason at all
ReplyDeleteWhat if the Civil War had never happened and the South had formed their own seperate country?
ReplyDeleteI think that their would be many conflicts between the North and South. Slavery would continue to expand in the South. Also, the South would have to expand on manufacturing and the North would have to expand their famring industry.
